Big Picnic in the sun…
Posted on July 20th, 2010 No commentsWe had a lovely day on Sunday 18th July, with Buckfastleigh’s (and the country’s) second ‘Big Lunch’ Big Picnic in the Park at the Orchard Millennium green, organised by Andy and Theo of Buck The Trend.
The sun shone most of the afternoon and, unlike last year, we had no need of the gazebo, except to keep the sun off the heads of the toddlers.
Everyone brought food to share, including home-grown vegetables, and we had a fine time eating, talking, and playing games together.
In Buck the Trend, we believe that community events like these are important to help build a closer, more resilient community which works and has fun together locally. Let’s help make this an annual Buckfastleigh institution and join up next year around the same time…

BTT at Lamb Pie Day
Posted on July 20th, 2010 No commentsBuck The Trend had a stand as planned at Lamb Pie day on Saturday 17th July, and the rain held off all day this year, despite ominous grey clouds at times.
Anne, Theo and Andy set up and manned the stall through the afternoon – we had badge-making kit and offered this at 50p a badge, which brought lots of youngsters to the stall, where they drew their badges while we chatted to their parents about Buck The Trend.
Also with us at the stall was a cherry tree donated to Buck the trend by the Energy Saving Trust (whose stall was opposite ours in Fore Street) where folks could hang their energy saving ideas for a chance to win a prize draw by the EST.
The cherry tree becomes part of our campaign to reintroduce fruit trees and expand orchards in and around the town. We are looking for a good spot to plant it – send us your suggestions here: Click here to reveal email address
