On Thursday 5th August, Buck The Trend – the  environmental group for the Buckfastleigh area – and others, celebrated the opening of the new, ‘Green Corner’ of the Buckfastleigh library.

This new section contains books, DVDs and other resources, donated by BTT members or bought with money they raised.

There are books and DVDs about the environment, global warming, permaculture, renewable energy,  the Transition movement etc.  (with more soon to come) – and these are now available for loan to anyone in the local area.

In attendence were Moira Andrews – the Area Group Manager for local libraries, Lynn West, the Librarian in Charge of Buckfastleigh Library,  members of the Friends of Buckfastleigh Library group, and members of Buck The Trend.

Andy Stokes, the secretary of Buck The Trend said:

‘We are very grateful for all the support we have had right from the start from the library staff, and priviledged to be given a permanent space in the library.

‘It is encouraging to know that if a local person wants to be better informed about these important issues, they can now find all the information they need right on their doorstep…

‘…and even better, that they can also see that they are not alone in their concerns – that there is a local group of people who share them and are already actively working to make a better future here in Buckfastleigh.’

If you are interested in finding out more about environmental issues, and what you can do about them,  just pop into your local library and get reading, or contact Buck the Trend at info@buckthetrend.info or visit the website at www.buckthetrend.info

Alternatively, come along to Buck The Trend’s AGM, which is on Wednesday 18th August at 7pm at the Town Hall. This will be followed at 7.45 by a screening of the fantastic animated movie, ‘The Story of Stuff’, which takes a straight-forward look at the folly of continuous growth and consumerism (more here) , and a discussion.
