Following a lot of planning and secrecy, the Totnes Renewable Energy Society (TRESOC) was launched to the world (but mainly to residents of Totnes and environs) last Friday.

The main aim of this Industrial and Provident Society is to develop the profitable supply of energy from renewable resources for the benefit of the community resident within Totnes and 15 surrounding parishes. Initially, this will involve the development of the Totnes Community Wind Farm (in partnership with Infinergy) near Luscombe Cross and the development of an anaerobic digestion plant (in partnership with South Hams District Council and Devon County Council).

TRESOC will be owned by its members, who need to be residents of Totnes and 15 surrounding parishes, over 18 and have purchased shares in TRESOC with a value from £20 to £20,000 (see the membership page here for full details). Unfortunately, this precludes those of us who live in the Buckfastleigh parish from becoming members, but if you live within the catchment area, this may be of interest to you.

BTT wishes TRESOC every success with their endeavours!
