    Save Devon’s Libraries – Rally
On Wednesday 8th October at 10:00am
Under the arches – Daw Room, County Hall, Exeter

Devon County Council Cabinet meets on Wednesday 8 October to decide the future of the county’s libraries – as you may know, their current proposal is to slash funding by 50% to 28* out of the 50 Devon branches – which would mean they can only stay open if volunteers can be found to run them.

*(Appledore, Ashburton, Axminster, Bampton, Bovey Tracey, Braunton, Buckfastleigh, Budleigh Salterton, Chagford, Chudleigh, Chumleigh, Clyst Vale, Colyton, Combe Martin, Dartmouth, Kingskerswell, Kingsteignton, Lynton, Moretonhampstead, Northam, Ottery St Mary, Pinhoe, Princetown, Salcombe, St Thomas, Stoke Fleming, Topsham, Uffculme)

In reality, the pool of volunteers in our communities are at breaking point, as more and more services that have been paid for fall to the knife of further so-called ‘Austerity Measures’ (whilst UK debt actually continues to grow faster than at any time since the second world war), and the responsibility for providing these falls on those with the few who have the ability and free-time to support their community for nothing. Like all that has been cut so far, once the funding is gone and libraries fail, they will be gone for good and we will lose these vital community resources and the services they provide us.

Do you agree that this should be allowed to happen without protest? This is your chance to say NO!

Please come together to voice your disagreement and ensure that our counsellors know your views and that they will be called to account for their actions. Come to County Hall on the 8th and bring your friends and family. Bring your own placard or banner with your message to the council. Please email info@bucktehtrend.info if you can come, from where, and if you have transport or if you would like to get a lift…

If you can’t come then please pass this information on to as many people as you can and add your name to the e-petition at:http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/68085

UNISON campaign information can be found on their website at:

    Many Thanks
