    (1) Fruit Tree Project Meeting – Monday 11th October

The working group of BTT members who are interested in the Fruit Tree Project will be meeting on the evening of Monday 11th October to define exactly what the project will involve and how it will be carried out. If you want to be involved then plese contact us (either via a Committee member or by email at info@buckthetrend.info) and we’ll let you know of the location and exact time of the meeting.

    (2) The Power of Community Film – Friday 15th October

We will be showing the film ‘The Power of Community – How Cuba survived Peak oil’ at the Town Hall at 7.30pm on Friday 15th October. This film looks at how the Cuban people survived when the Soviet Union collapsed and their economy was devestated almost overnight.

You are invited to stay after the film for a cup of tea and a discussion about how we may cope with increasing scarcity and rising cost of energy and food imports.

Admission is free, but we would welcome donations towards the cost of room hire etc. Please help us get a full-house by downloading a poster to display.

    (3) Buckfastleigh Primary School Jumble Sale – Saturday 16th October

BTT will have a table at the Jumble Sale at Buckfastleigh Primary School from 10am to midday. We’ll be promoting the group and let people know what events/activities we have planned in the near future. If you’d like to help out on the day then please contact us at info@buckthetrend.info.

    (4) “Open” Committee Meeting – Thursday 21st October

The next BTT Committee Meeting will be held on the evening of Thursday 21st October. The meeting is open to all BTT members, and if you do want to come along then please contact us (either via a Committee member or by email at info@buckthetrend.info) and we’ll let you know of the location and exact time of the meeting.

    (5) Dartington Christmas Tree Festival Workshop – Tuesday 16th November

BTT will be taking part in the Christmas Tree Festival at Dartington Hall. This will involve the decoration of one of 12 specially planted five to six foot trees in the mediaeval courtyard at Dartington Hall. The decorations will follow the theme of ‘sustainability’ and we hope to make all of the decorations ourselves in a sustainable way.

To make some of the decorations, we’ll be holding a workshop on Tuesday 16th November, but the timing will depend upon who wants to take part (i.e. it could be just after school finishes if there are school children who want to take part, or it’ll be later in the evening if not). If you’d like to take part in the workshop (or help out in another way) then please tell a member of the Committee or email us at info@buckthetrend.info.

    (6) Cosy Devon

As part of our response to the approach of 10:10:10 BTT are partnering with Energy Action Devon to promote the Cosy Devon scheme. Cosy Devon means that all homeowners and private tenants in the Teignbridge area are eligible for free or discounted loft and cavity wall insulation. There are more details on our website.

    (7) Microgeneration

Microgeneration is the generation of electrical or heat energy from renewable sources. It has been in the headlines recently, and it may seem obvious to go ahead with a microgeneration scheme if you can, but is this necessarily true? We’ve put some details on the Feed-in Tariff and solar PV panels on our website.

*(8) Dartmoor and Exmoor Low Carbon Festival – Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th October *

The second Dartmoor and Exmoor Low Carbon Festival takes place over the weekend of 09 and 10 October with a series of events planned across both National Parks that will highlight, with practical examples, how people can reduce their carbon emissions and adapt to the ever growing pressures on our resources.

For more details please go here.

    *(9) Wildspace AGM – Wednesday 20th October *

You are invited to the Wildspace AGM on Wednesday 20th October at 7.30pm in the Town Hall. Come along to hear about the Wildspace garden project, its progress over the last year and future plans. The garden is now open, via the Town Hall every Sunday afternoon from 2pm, weather permitting. If you are interested in being involved on the committee, please let them know by visiting the garden on a Sunday afternoon or giving us a call before the AGM.

    *(10) PullApart *

PullApart is all about our kerbside recycling, breaking down packaging into its component parts, colour coding to our collection bins and, grading according to its local recyclability and ease of disposal. This information is made freely available to local people.

PullApart’s environmental perspective mirrors local rules, that of Teignbridge District Council, just placed in a particular order, and is award winning. It has been successfully operated now for about five years, and is free to use, having received many visitors and followers throughout the world.
