    (1) BTT EDUCATION GROUP

    I am interested in convening an Education Group and am looking to see if there are others interested too. I think that building an awareness/understanding of energy-use, material/product consumption, food production & preparation (amongst other things) will help us as individuals and a community to make more informed, ecologically-sensitive lifestyle decisions, and equip us to help bring about & better deal with a future society that will look very different to the present one.

    I also feel that sharing valuable skills can strengthen & build community bonds, empower those sharing, and ensure that important knowledge (especially from elders) is not lost. This group would be a place to generate & cultivate ideas and support each other to try them out within the community.

    Some ideas so far are:
    – developing an energy-awareness course/workshop for young people to take to local schools; creating home & workplace energy audit projects;
    – initiating a ‘Pass-It-On’ style skill-sharing network.

    My educational background was in teaching in Adult & Higher Education for 10 years (though I also worked with young children and mixed-age groups), and developing courses in ITC for adult learners.

    Please email me on btt @ andystokes . com or ring 643920 if you are interested.

    (2) VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: MINUTE-TAKER NEEDED

    The Buck the Trend executive committee needs a volunteer to take minutes at committee meetings. The meetings take place once a month and last for approximately 90 minutes.

    This is an excellent opportunity to support Buck the Trend’s work in a small but vital way. No special skills needed! Please email back to this address or phone Mel on 642656 if interested.

    (3) NEXT BTT FORUM

    Our next Forum takes place on Monday 14th September at 7.30pm. It will be a joint event with St Luke’s Church and takes place at St Lukes where Martyn Goss, Director of the Council for Church & Society for Exeter Diocese, will be talking on the theme of ‘Climate change: how can church and community help?’

    This will be a chance to network with a group of people who have much influence in Buckfastleigh, so please do come and support the event. A poster for the event is attached in case you would like to display it in your window.

    (4) TRANSITION FESTIVAL*

    A solar powered music and arts festival is planned for 19 September at the old gasworks site, Hollicombe Gardens, in Paignton. The festival will focus on promoting local music, arts and food with an underlying environmental message.

    There will be an eclectic mixture of activities on offer during the day including a range of local bands and musicians performing on the solar powered stage and a separate acoustic stage. There will be a beer tent supported by Bay’s Brewery, local food stalls, free children’s activities and lots of environmental displays and information showing people how they can make a difference.

    See www.transtionfestival.com for more info and email back to this BTT address if you’re interested in car-sharing on the day.

    (5) EXETER CATHEDRAL SEASON OF CREATION*
