    (1) Buckfastleigh Green Library Launch – Thur 8th Aug
At last the ‘Green Corner’ of the Buckfastleigh library is ready for use – thanks to everyone who donated books or cash.
Come along and join us on Thursday at 6 pm for a chat and some refreshments as we officially open it. We haven’t yet spent all the money, so please email your suggestions for books, DVDs or magazines, or leave them at the library.
    (2) AGM and screening of ‘The Story of STUFF’ – Wed 18th Aug
We will be holding our AGM (a little late, but never mind) at the Town Hall at 7pm, all interested folk are welcome (don’t worry it will be short & sweet!). We will quickly elect new officers (Chair, Secretary & Treasurer) and accept volunteers to join the committee, and have a brief review.
To liven things up we will then be screening Annie Leonard’s ‘The Story of STUFF’, a 20 minute animated film afterwards (7.45), and discussing the ‘REDUCE’ bit of the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ mantra. Bring your thoughts and feelings about consumer society and the necessity (or otherwise) for reinstating continuous economic growth… http://www.storyofstuff.com/
If you have access to an LCD projector that we can use for the screening, please get in touch: info@buckthetrend.info
You can download a poster/flier here – please print it out and display a copy anywhere you think might be good.
    (3) Fruit Tree/Orchard Project
We are convening a group for those interested in growing fruit trees, campaigning for fruit tree planting of public spaces, and renovating/creating orchards in and around the town.
We would like to hold a workshop soon, so if you are interested in these issues or have some knowledge/resources to offer, let us know by emailing info@buckthetrend.info
    (4) Free Tickets for Self-Build & Design show – Exeter 11th-12th Sept
The Energy Saving Trust have donated some tickets for this show – they will be in the library from Thursday evening on a first-come, first-served basis…
    5) Farmers Market – BTT stall
We would like to  have a stall at the Buckfastleigh farmers market at least once a month, as we think that it would be great for the market to grow and become central to the life of the town. If you want to sell your home-grown produce, hand-crafts or just want to make sure stuff you no longer have a use for gets re-used, or would like to help staff the stall or donate your stuff to sell, then get in touch info@buckthetrend.info
    (6) 10/10/10
The 10:10 movement to reduce our carbon footprint by 10 percent in 2010 is promoting events worldwide on the 10th October, and we would like to do something locally. See http://www.1010global.org/uk
If you have a cunning idea, get in touch at info@buckthetrend.info

To liven things up we will then be screening Annie Leonard’s ‘The Story of STUFF’, a 20 minute animated film afterwards (7.45).

In a very engaging and easy to digest animated format, this little movie packs a potent message concerning the cost to us all of ‘consumerism out of control’ – whilst also suggesting what can be done about it. A must see movie for everyone!

After this we will discuss the ‘REDUCE’ bit of the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ mantra. Bring your thoughts and feelings about consumer society and the necessity (or otherwise) for reinstating continuous economic growth… http://www.storyofstuff.com/
