Garden Share
After being inspired by Hal Gilmore & Carole Whitty at the discussions following our In Transition file screening, Buck The Trend are setting up a Garden Share scheme to cover Buckfastleigh and the surrounding communities.
The scheme will run in the same way as Transition Town Totnes’ Gardenshare scheme. To quote from their website:
Lots of people in the [Buckfastleigh] area have gardens that are underused. At the same time there are many locals who have no access to a garden, and who would love the chance to grow their own food, herbs and flowers.
Gardenshare links up people who have an unused gardens with local commited growers. Many of us have had enough of life as nettle-farmers and want to use our unloved plots to grow cabbages, connections – even friends! The benefits for the garden owners include a share of the produce, the pleasure of seeing a lovely developing vegetable plot, and the sense of community in being part of a sharing initiative.
This service matches and introduces committed, enthusiastic, and growers with local garden owners who want to see their gardens being used more productively.
If you have some room in your garden that you’d like to offer to a grower, or if you are a grower who is looking for some local land then please contact …
